Want a chicken coop in your backyard? Have a bunch of pups? Here are the CAB rules
As your Sterling Ranch real estate expert, I'm often asked what you can - and can't - do in and to your Sterling Ranch home. We thought the Sterling Ranch Roundup would be a helpful forum to answer FAQs. Keep in mind that the community's rules, regulations, and policies change over time, so check first with the Community Authority Board (the CAB is Sterling Ranch's equivalent to a HOA) regarding your particular issue. In other words, don't rely exclusively on this Roundup post - ask your Sterling Ranch realtor or the CAB for the latest and great information.
With that said, on to today's question!
Question: What are the rules about pets in Sterling Ranch?
Pets are allowed so long as they are:
(1) domesticated birds, fish, and other small domestic animals,
(2) are confined indoors,
(3) you have no more than five (5) animals, and
(4) are for personal use, and not commercial use.
The indoor restriction means, for example, no chicken coops in the backyard. Or as another example, no roaming cats.
The no commercial use restriction means you can't breed and sell dogs, cats, or other animals.
Also, per the Sterling Ranch Residential Property Owners Guidebook (June 2017 version), pets can't make an unreasonable amount of noise or cause objectionable odors or become a nuisance. Sterling Ranch also requires you to manage pet waste, as you might expect, and leashes are always required. There are no dog parks in Sterling Ranch yet, but be sure to check out Chatfield's 69 acre off-leash dog heaven, complete with two swimming ponds and miles of trails!
Last but not least, remember there are always state and local rules and regulations that apply to pets.
