International adventure race will descend on Littleton's Sterling Ranch in August 2019
The Everest 2.0 obstacle at a Tough Mudder event
One of the world's most famous outdoor adventure races is coming to Sterling Ranch. The international obstacle race phenomenon known as the Tough Mudder will descend on Littleton's Sterling Ranch on August 10 and 11, 2019.
The Tough Mudder is an endurance event series where participants risk electric shocks, hypothermia, and other potential hazards on grueling obstacle courses. The Sterling Ranch event will have 3 flights. The first flight is 3 miles and 13 obstacles. The second flight is 8-10 miles and 25 obstacles. The third flight is the competitive division, which is also 8-10 miles in length.
Colorado's Tough Mudder event was previously held in Snowmass. The Vail Daily reported that the 2018 Tough Mudder was expected to bring at least 9,000 people to Snowmass. Tough Mudder's website says 10,000-15,000 thousand people normally attend each event.
The Sterling Ranch Tough Mudder will also have a "Mudder Village." Here's more on the Mudder Village from Tough Mudder's website:
"It all starts and ends in Mudder Village with killer live entertainment, epic games and challenges, authentic local food, and a never ending-supply of Mudder Nation camaraderie.
After you’re done crushing the course, the good times keep rolling with a frosty cold finisher beer and your new best friends from course."

The 2019 Tough Mudder should be something akin to a "showcase event" for a new community like Sterling Ranch. Thousands of athletes, spectators, and vendors will get to experience the mountain views, natural terrain, and active lifestyle that we all love about Sterling Ranch. Here's what the Tough Mudder has to say about Sterling Ranch's incredible landscape and the 2019 event:
"Everyone knows Colorado is home to the most badass terrain in the country. That’s why Tough Mudder Classic Colorado is gonna be an absolutely insane weekend of expansive views and mud-drenched rolling hills criss-crossing Sterling Ranch just 20 minutes from downtown Denver. So gather up your muddin’ crew and get ready to push yourselves to the next level."
We'll update this post as more information about the 2019 event becomes available.
