Only 8 minutes west of Providence Village, Arrowhead Golf Club is worth visiting, even for non-golfers

For those of you who live in Sterling Ranch and enjoy playing golf - or even if you don't - you need to visit Arrowhead Golf Club. Arrowhead has been voted the #1 public golf course in the Denver area, as well as one of America's "Top 75 Public Courses" by Golf Digest - and for good reason. You can probably tell from the photographs in this Roundup post that Arrowhead isn't your normal back-and-forth public golf course. Indeed, Arrowhead feels more like an ancient rock garden than a golf course. The red sandstone rock formations are almost 300 million years in the making!
If you're not much of a golfer, stop by the On The Rocks Bar & Grill, which is located in the clubhouse. The Bar & Grill offers lunch and dinner seven days a week. For lunch, you'll find plenty of delicious, reasonably priced salads, burgers, and similar American-style fare. You can't go wrong with the $14 Flat Iron Salad, which includes asada style steak, chopped romaine, sharp cheddar, grape tomatoes, cilantro, corn salsa, avocados, and sriracha lime ranch.
The Bar & Grill also has special events, such as 80125 Night (Happy Hour from 4 PM to 7 PM) and $20 Prime Rib Night on select Fridays. Reservations are available.
You need a tee time to play Arrowhead, and greens fees range from $40 to $160, depending on the day and time you choose to play. But my husband, a big golfer, assures me the course is worth a visit, especially if you're looking for a true Colorado mountain golf experience (perfect for visitors from out-of-state as well!).
As for me, I may just stick with a glass of wine and salad at the restaurant, enjoying the world class view. At 300 million years old, this part of Colorado pre-dates even the dinosaurs, and could go as far back as when Pangea, the supercontinent existed. And to think this is all just 8 minutes from Sterling Ranch!
